The museum of history of Pechory has been opened in the center of the town. The opening ceremony was attended by numerous guests, including the Head of Pechory Assumption Monastery Archimandrite Tikhon and the Governor of the Pskov Region Andrey Turchak.

In the opening speech Natalia Dubrovskaya, the Director of Izborsk State Museum Reserve expressed her special gratitude to the monastery and Archimandrite Tikhon for helping to repair and decorate the new museum building. The Governor of the Pskov Region Andrey Turchak supported the museum by requesting the local authorities not to sell the building but to allow it to be used as a museum building. Giving his speech the Head of the Region noted that “the opening of the new museum is a good example of cooperation between the State and the Church”. Andrey Turchak also expressed his hope that in the future the museum would become a venue for events organized by the Museum and Pskov Eparchy.

Archimandrite Tikhon emphasized that the concept of the museum and its interior design were developed by museum staff with great love and care.

-  Everything has been done on a high European level, - he noted, – God help the museum to develop the historical content. Only together, connecting the past, present and future we will succeed.

Archimandrite Tikhon presented an icon of Archangel Mikhail to the museum. He also added that another place of interest will soon appear in Pechory. The museum of history of the Assumption Monastery will soon be opened in the historical building which has been returned to the monastery.

The exhibitions of the new museum of the History of Pechory tell about the history of the town and its people, about the heroic deeds of the Russian army headed by Petr Vitgenshtein which stopped the army of Napoleon from approaching St.Petersburg in 1812. Another exhibition is dedicated to Seto people who consider Pechory the unofficial capital of their “Kingdom of Setomaa”. The staff of Izborsk Museum Reserve are sure that the new museum will soon become one of the most popular tourist attractions.

Dear guests, the entrance to the museum is free up to January 25. You are also welcome to take part in the charity action “Donating to the museum”.
