State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

On August 1-2 the 9th International Festival of Battles’ Reenactment and Medieval Culture “The Iron Town – 2014” will take place in Izborsk.  

The organizers of the Festival are The State Committee of the Pskov Region for Culture, Izborsk State Museum-Reserve of History, Architecture and Land, Tula Youth Club for Historical Re-enactment and Fencing and the center for historical projects “The Valour of Epochs”.

Over 300 re-enactors from Tula, St.Petersburg, Moscow, Belgorod, Podol’sk, Pskov, Riga, Narva and Tallinn will take part in the Festival.  

The visitors will be able to see equestrian contests, a shooters’ tournament, a parade in historical costumes and a battles’ re-enactment, called “a Bughurt”. This year a theatrical program “The 17th century in the history of Izborsk” will be put up for the first time.

The visitors of the Festival will be able to try food in taverns, play medieval games, use the playground for children and buy goods and souvenirs produced by re-enactors. 

The concert of folk groups «Spirital Seasons» and «LaVerden» by the walls of Izborsk Fortress will become one of the brightest events of the Festival.

August 1, Saturday

13.00-19.00 Medieval Trade Fair. Taverns. Medieval games. A playground for children.

14.00 The opening ceremony. The introduction of historical reenactment clubs.

14.20- 15.30 A Battle’s reenactment, a parade in historical costumes, tournaments. 

15.30-16.00 A concert of Folk music groups.

16.00 – A theatrical program “The 17th century in the history of Izborsk” (horse cavalry, shooters, gunners)  

17.00 - Equestrian contests.

18.30 The “Buhurt” battle

19.30 Folk music concert.

August 2, Sunday.

11.00-15.00 Medieval Trade Fair. Taverns. A playground for children.

13.00- 14.30 The equestrian contest.

14.30- 15.00 Medieval music performances.

The entrance fee is 350 rubles for adults, 150 rubles for schoolchildren and there is no entrance fee for children under 7.
