State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

On September, 3 His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill visited Izborsk in the framework of his visit to the Pskov Region. His Holiness was accompanied by temporary acting governor of the Pskov Region Andrey Turchak, the Metropolitan of Pskov and Velikiye Luki Evseviy and other representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In Izborsk His Holiness visited the ancient churches, reconstructed in the framework of preparations to the celebration of 1150-th anniversary of the town in 2012.

The Patriarch visited the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh, which was handed over in the care of the Russian Orthodox Church in July 2014. After that he visited St. Nikolas Church.

Addressing the people who gathered to greet him in the church His Holiness said that he had long wanted to visit Izborsk. He would pass Izborsk many times on the way to other places never stopping to visit it. «I have special feelings about visiting this place and I am pleasantly surprised to see how well everything has been restored here” – added the Patriarch.  «Izborsk is one of the most ancient Russian towns and the progress we see here today evokes the feeling of deep satisfaction», — said the Patriarch, expressing His gratitude to the Governor, the museum professionals and the priest of the church for the wonderful condition of the monuments.
