State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»
16 September 2013
There is a fleeting, wondrous moment
  during autumn's early days:
time stands motionless, time's a crystal,
  evenings bathe in brilliant rays.

The air has emptied.  Birds no longer chatter,
though there's some time to wait for winter's snow and rain,
and pure and warm, a gentle blue is flowing
across the resting plains.

F. Tyutchev, translated by F.Jude

“Izborsk” museum-preserve invites everyone to visit the exhibition “The preserve of the Russian soul”.

It is an exhibition of paintings, which artists – the members of Pskov branch of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation, presented to the museum. The paintings were created during the interregional plein-air, which took place in Izborsk in October 2011 and was dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of Izborsk, which was celebrated one year ago. The main idea of the plein-air was to unite the representatives of different schools of art in order to present the painters’ individual artistic perception of Izborsk.  All in all 10 people from Pskov, Velikiye Luki, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Novgorod took part in the plein-air.

Izborsk is a place of pilgrimage to Russian Holy places, the symbol of Russian statehood. The land here is truly Russian, sacred, it is not only a nature, architectural and archaeological preserve, but it is also a preserve of Russian culture, a preserve for the pure Russian Soul.

-  Every visit of an artist to ancient Izborsk – is a new experience which will never be repeated, said Viktor Lyisiiuk, an honored artist of the Russian Federation, the president of Pskov branch of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation and a participant of the exhibition. – The most effective form of an artist’s professional growth is participation in plein-airs with other artists.  During a plein-air the artist himself changes. He sees one and the same landscape with different eyes. This mutual work is always a big breakthrough in creativity, professional skills, it gives birth to new ideas.

After the plein-air every artist presented one of his or her paintings to the Pskov branch of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation which in its turn presented them to the museum-preserve during the celebration of Izborsk’s 1150th anniversary.

The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00
