Toys are the brightest manifestations of culture, true life and tradition. The craft and art of toy making is passed from one generation to another. People convey through toys their understanding of life, work and beauty.

Recently Izborsk State Museum Reserve received as a gift a remarkable collection of clay and wooden toys. All together 873 toys!

Nikolay Vladimirovich Polyakov, a lecturer of Moscow State University for Culture and Arts was collecting toys all his life, bringing them from different corners of the world. After he passed away in 2019, his sisters Tatiana Vladimirovna Balashova and Valentina Vladimirovna Pudova decided to donate his collection of toys to Izborsk Museum.

Dymkovo landladies, bright Filimonovo horsemen, Kargopol animals or mysterious whistles from Abashevo Village of Penza Region – such toys were produced all over Russia!

Toys from different regions of Russia and the world, traditional and uniquely designed – you will be able to see all of them at the exhibition “Russian and Seto People. Common Land, Common history”.

We are happy to see you every day from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. in Merchant Shvedov’s House (Pechorskaya str., 32).
