Russian Maslenitsa is the time full of merrymaking. Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) week has always been full of joy and merrymaking in Izborsk!

We are happy to invite everybody to come to Izborsk on February 29 to take part in Maslenitsa Festivities.

We are also waiting for you in Izborsk, Pechory and Sigovo during Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) week to take part in various interactive programmes. All the Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) week from February 24 to March 1 you will be able to take part in following interactive programmes:

•  “A Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) week in Izborsk” – the participants of the programme will not only have an interesting guided tour of Izborsk, but also learn how to make printed patterns on cloth. After making with their own hands the symbol of the festivities – a Maslenitsa doll they will treat themselves to most delicious pancakes in Izborsk Museum’s “Blinnaya” (Pancakes) Café. (Izborsk)

“We have been waiting for Maslenitsa Festivities to come…” – the guests of The Museum of History of Pechory will learn about the history of the town and local Maslenitsa traditions. They will take part in games and merrymaking and then enjoy a cup of flavourful tea in the museum’s pavilion.  (Pechory, Mazhdunarodnaya str., 6)

“King’s Maslenitsa” – During Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) week Seto people celebrate, visit relatives and friends and receive guests themselves. The hostesses of Seto People Homestead Museum will be happy to have you as their guests to tell you about their traditions and crafts, to treat you with pancakes, pies and pumpkin drink.
