State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

22 January 2020

An exhibition entitled “Pskov Necklace. Paintings” has been opened in Izborsk Museum Reserve.

The exhibition features paintings, created by Aleksander Konstantinovich Krylov, a Distinguished Artist of the Russian Federation, a professor of Saint Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin, an Associate Member of Russian Academy of Arts and his students – Konstantin Konstantinov and Anastasiya Vaganova-Panikarovskaya.

In their paintings the artists have depicted Pskov landscapes – simple and fascinating.

Aleksander Konstantinovich says the following about Pskov and its area: “Pskov beauty and mystery are indescribable. Time and spirit of prayer become tangible in the white churches that remind one ancient Slavonic idols. Holy Springs – “izbory”, protective stone crosses decorating fortress towers and churches, memorial crosses and grave crosses that can be seen in hilly fields, valleys and strongholds  - their mystery has attracted and thrilled us since our childhood. Chronicles testify to the glory of our ancestors and ancient frescoes unfold to us the mysterious world of the high Russian style. The holy town on the Velikaya River, Vybouty, Videleb’ye, Truvor’s Izborsk, Pechory, Melyotovo, Porkhov, Senno, Snetogorye… We keep coming back to ask the stones and places of ancient settlements to give us answers to our questions; to perceive the glory of our ancestors, to follow Nikolay Roerikh, to meet like minded people and to understand the beauty of our Motherland.”

The exhibition is located in Merchant Belyanin’s House (Izborsk, Pechorskaya str., 39).
