State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

7 August 2019

The 13th Festival of historical reenactment and medieval culture “The Iron Town – 2019” has taken place in Izborsk on August 3-4.

Historical atmosphere was recreated for the guests of the festival by over 100 representatives of 10 historical reenactment clubs from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tula, Belgorod, Vlikiye Luki and Pskov.

The spectators were able to see a parade –introduction of the historical reenactment cubs, a demonstration of historical costumes, reenactments of battles, archers’ tournaments, equestrian contests. Pyrotechnics and various models were used during battles’ reenactments. A concert of folk medieval music took place by the walls of Izborsk fortress with two musical bands performing: LaVerden (Tula) and Bee Celtic (St, Petersburg).

An equestrian contest became the most spectacular event of the festival. The rules of the contest were as close as possible to the rules of such contests in the 15th century. During the contest handling of various weapons (muskets, spears and artillery weapons) was demonstrated. At the interactive ground entitled “An Archers’ Camp” that was located on the plateau above Gorodischenskoye Lake, the spectators were able to see camp tents, camp furniture, places to cook food in the open fire, fragments of 16th-17th century field fortifications. A playground for children and a medieval trade fair were open for visitors.

We would like to express our deep gratitude for organization and significant contribution to the development of “The Iron Town” historical reenactment and medieval culture festival to the State Committee of the Pskov Region for Culture, Russian Military Historical Society, Tula Youth Club of Historical Reenactment and Fencing, as well as to all the participants and spectators of the event.

“The Iron Town” Festival has become one of the brightest events of this summer.

We are grateful to everybody! Let’s meet at “The Iron Town” festival next year!
