State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

A 17th century shooters’ camp will be set up on the plateau above Gorodischenskoye Lake on August 3 and 4. 

This interactive ground will be working in the framework of the historical reenactment festival “The iron town». The visitors will see camp tents, camp furniture, camp fire places for cooking food, camp fortifications and, of course, strelets (riflemen) themselves as well as a 16th-17th century gunner.

Every visitor of the Festival will get acquainted with the field camp life, see craftsmen working and learn the basics of their crafts, to use medieval weapons, to try on the dress and armor of medieval warriors.

Besieging fortresses was not possible in the 16th-17th centuries without siege artillery. A replica of a 16th-17th century cannon will be demonstrated, as well as all necessary equipment to charge and shoot a cannon.  The visitors will be able to learn from the gunner how to charge a cannon.

The shooters’ camp will be open for visitors on August 3 from 13.00 to 19.00 p.m., on August 4 – from 12.00 to 15.00 p.m.

The organizers of the Festival are: State Committee of the Pskov Region for Culture, Russian Military Historical Society, Izborsk State Museum Reserve for History, Architecture and Land, a non-governmental organization “Tula Youth Club of Historical Reenactment and Fencing”.
