The Museum of History of Pechory started the series of festive events, dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The meeting of the Museum’s club was entitled “The Children of the War. Recollections”. Children – members of the military-patriotic club “The Frontier” took part in the meeting sharing their knowledge about their grandmothers and grandfathers- the participants of the War and showing their photos. Everybody listened with great interest to Elena Tselikova from the district library who was telling everyone about their project entitled “History told by children”.

It was followed by the talk of Nikolay Petrovich Matveyev about his childhood in Pechory during the war, which was full of sorrows and anxieties, hunger and cold. He recollected how happy everyone was to greet the Soviet liberators.

At the end the meeting Aleksander Nickolayevich Dem’yanenko, the President of the Council of the Veterans of the War and Labour of Pechory District, said: “Recollections of people who grew up during the Great Patriotic War about their childhood is the last thread that connects the young generation with the true history of those terrible years. We need such meetings because they help us express our gratitude to the past for the sake of the peaceful future”.
