Izborsk Museum Reserve and the family of Bashlachyovs from Syktyvkar became friends in 2014, when two sisters - Aleftina Aleksandrovna and Tamara Aleksandrovna with their niece Antonina Anatolyevna - came to Izborsk to visit the grave of their brother and uncle Bashlachyov Aleksandr Aleksandrovich, who died at the age of 18 in a battle near Izborsk during World Patriotic War.

Izborsk was liberated on July 30, 1944 by The 291st Rifle Division and 376th Kuzbass-Pskov Division. We will never forget that day. The victory cost the lives of hundreds of people.

The ashes of soldiers who died liberating Izborsk and its vicinities rest in two mass graves. 365 warriors were buried in Izborsk and 579 warriors were buried near Riga road at “Krivaya Versta”.
