Bird Day is celebrated worldwide on April 1. Birds were under protection of the state in Russia already in czarist times. In 1926 - 1953 Bird Day was also an official holiday in Russia. In 1994 it began to be celebrated again.

The date for celebrating this holiday was chosen because at this time migrating birds return to their home areas.  According to the tradition on this day children and their parents improve the places of nest location of swimming birds, make and put up new birdfeeders.

Izborsk State Museum Reserve invites everyone to come to Izborsk and to take part in the celebration of the Bird Day on April 1 at 12.00 p.m. You will be able to learn what role birds play in keeping the balance of nature and in the life of people, about rare and protected birds living in Izborsk-Mal’skaya valley and also to take part in master classes, contests and quizzes. The winners of the competition for the best birdfeeder will be decided on. All the celebrations will take place in the Entertainment Garden of the museum’s Blinnaya (Pancakes) café.
