State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

The IX festival of early medieval culture “Isaborg” will be held in Izborsk on July 2-3, 2016.

The organizers of the festival are Izborsk Museum Preserve, Historical reenactment clubs “Usad’ba” (Pskov) and “The Valor of Ages” (Tula) with the support of the Administration of the Pskov Region and Russian Military-Historical Society. “Isaborg” Festival has become the winner of the regional contest for the best war-historical festival for the third time and has received a grant for the implementation of the main events of the program. The contest has been held by Russian Military-Historical Society. 

130 members of historical reenactment clubs from Pskov, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novgorod, Petrozavodsk, Saratov, Minsk and Tallinn will take part in the festival. 

The program will start on Saturday, July 2 at 11.00 a.m. This year the program focuses again on various crafts. Everyone will be able to not only see the medieval technological processes being recreated but also get a master class in them.

The program includes preparation of ale, kvas, snacks; making clay pots and woodenware, bone and horn carving, weaving, embroidery, knitting and plaiting, making chain armor, cloth dyeing, making tar, tool sharpening, forging and embossment of jewelry, ploughing, training in medieval hunting and fishing.   

At 12.00 the work of medieval market will start on the plateau above Gorodischenskoye Lake, entertainment for children will also be organized. 

 At 14.00 the guests of the festival will be able to see a parade of the participants of the festival, a battle’s reenactment, competitions of teams of warriors and single warriors. At 15.30 the work of the interactive crafts shops will be resumed in the historical camp on the Ancient Settlement Site.

The festival’s program:

July, 2 Saturday.
11.30 – The opening ceremony of the historical camp on the Truvor’s Ancient Settlement Site. 11.30-13.30 – The work of crafts shops and shops on the Truvor’s Ancient Settlement Site.

12.00-17.00 - The work of crafts shops and shops on the plateau above Gorodischenskoye Lake

14.00-15.30 – A parade of the participants of the festival, a battle’s reenactment, competitions of teams of warriors and single warriors.

15.30-17.00 – The work of crafts shops and shops on the Truvor’s Ancient Settlement Site.

17.30 – The closing of the historical camp on Truvor’s Ancient Settlement Site for visitors.

July, 3 Sunday.
10.30 – 11.30 – The closing ceremony of the festival.

Everyone is welcome!

The entrance fee is 100 rubles.

This enables you to visit all the sites of the festival and 14th century Izborsk fortress.
