State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

12 June 2016

We would like to invite everybody to attend the opening of the exhibition “Alexander Nevskiy, the defender of Russian Land” on May 12 at 15.00 in Izborsk fortress.

The exhibition features 26 posters dedicated to the life and heroic deeds of Alexander Nevskiy, his role in the history of the country, in strengthening the statehood and Orthodox faith, in defending Pskov and Izborsk territories. Great Prince Alexander Nevskiy is one of the most famous historic figures in Russia, an outstanding military leader and a shrewd politician. He managed to defend the northwestern borders of Rus from the Swedes and the knights of the Livonian Order. During the hard time of Mongol-Tatar invasion, the separation and weakening of Rus, he aspired for consolidation of the internal political powers, avoiding open confrontation with the Golden Horde.

The materials of the exhibition tell about the canonization of Alexander Nevskiy by the Russian Orthodoхchurch, about the Nativity monastery in Vladimir, where the prince was initially buried, about the transferal of his holy relics from Vladimir to St.Petersburg and the way people pay tribute to his memory in other towns of Russia.
